Mirror Photos

There is an illness on the internet. Not a virus, but a human illness. This epidemic has hit everyone with access to a digital camera. I'm talking about mirror photos. They're everywhere! Some done with taste, most not so much, some just make you say "what were they thinking?". But what impulses everyone to take so many pictures in their mirrors? I know I'm very guilty of taking a few myself. But what is it that we see in the mirror that we can't shoot by flipping the camera around or turning the timer on? Do people just enjoy taking photos in the bathroom? Or is there a side of us through the looking glass that we want people to see? Are these photos used to make memories? Or are they more just used to show off the goods(or most cases the not so goods)?

This plague of photo taking has come along through the popularity of photo rating sites, attention seekers, insecure chumps and bimbos, and the lack of knowledge of camera timers.

Here are some examples:
(I took these right after a shower, so don't mind the hair)

First we have the "check out mah bling"

the "still trying to figure out how this damn camera works"

the "emo"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "check out my sexy outfit"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the ever popular "kissy face"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the even more popular "retarded kissy face"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

and don't forget the "retarded kissy face with a check out my sexy outfit and pose"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "thanks for the present but I don't really like it smile"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "idiot who takes a photo of himself only to block out his face entirely with his camera"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "this only angle that makes me look thin"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "guy just trying to get himself in the frame"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "check out my ass in this awkward pose, which also, usually comes with a retarded kissy face""
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "don't mess with me"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "morons who use their flash only to expose their filthy bathroom mirror and hide face"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "wake n' mirror pic"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "guy whose afraid of his camera" or the "evil villain who someday plans to take over the world and has nobody to take a photo of him because nobody likes him" or the "evil villain who someday plans to take over the world and has nobody to take a photo of him because nobody likes him who is afraid of his camera"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "nervous and naked"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "confident and naked"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "don't i look like a happy person? DON'T I?? I'm having a great time over here alone in my bathroom, I think you should know that! YAAAYY!!!"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "look at what i have" (in which case a woman would be showing her breasts while covering her nipples with one arm across)
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "hidden camera trick"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "naked British pedophile"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "look I'm goofy, and so random...cause randomness is whats in and hip....and sticking my finger up my nose is quite random....dont you think?......you see....isn't it funny?"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "extreme fish face"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

the "guy who forgets to try to smile"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

and last but certainly not least...

the "check out my hot body as I flex my non existent muscles and pop every vain in my forehead"
Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

So I hope the next time you, or someone you love, decide to put your mirror pic on the net, that you take a good look at it. Look long and hard. Ask yourself, "should I really expose the world to this?".

Remember, they aren't memories, they're self portraits.

I'd like to thank the following photos for inspiring this blog:

Leave It All

Keep leaving your shoe
under my green stool

Keep leaving your conditioner
in my shower

Because I know
you have to
come back for those

Keep leaving your hand lotion
beside my bed

Keep leaving your lingerie
between my sheets

I need
to be able
to remember
your smell

Keep leaving love letters
on my pillow

Keep leaving hairs
in my sink

Keep leaving hair pins
in my soap dish

They remind me
that you're not
just a wonderful figment
of my imagination

Keep leaving everything
and anything
so that you don't

really leave
at all

Just a quickie

I've been wanted to post a new blog but ideas and thoughts and time and life all got in the way.

Not that I'm complaining.

Anything that I was supposed to write on here will eventually be written or shown.
So I'm not too worried about that.

But I thought I'd come on and do a little quick free writing.

Just to get me more settled into the blog.

Its like preparing a new baseball glove for the big games.
It's got to be broken in.
I hear some people use vasoline and mink oil.
But you've got to give it some punches to soften and form before you're ready to take it onto the field.

So heres some fine saddle soap to break in with.

My life is pretty amazing.
I love when I can step outside and look at it.
I look at the things I stress and worry about. And how lucky I am to have things that bother and distress - me be so minor.
"Oh gee, the battery in my camera is dead. Poor me. Thats just so terrible. Its the end of the world. What am i going to do?"
Things that I think are SO terrible at the time, but I wont even remember the next day.

WON'T EVEN REMEMBER!

And the terrible things that I do remember, and have some significance in my life, I can now look back at as beautiful.

Tragedy isn't a constant unless you let it be.

I think of others who aren't so lucky. Others who are constantly reminded.

And though I don't remember all the hard times, I still remember to carry extra batteries.

A New Start

This feels good. A brand new blog.

Yes, this place seems pretty comfortable. I have a little spot for everything - Poetry, Pictures, Videos, Stories, and whatever nick-nacks I pick up along my path.

Theres nothing like a blank page. So many possibilities.

I remember hearing somewhere, that there are two ways to look at a blank sheet. You can look at it as just that - a blank space, or as the greatest opportunity in the world because nobody's put anything on it. To go ahead and use it to dream, create new things and let your imagination go. Everything has to start somewhere...so I will start everything right here.

I hope to bring back some of the posts from my old blog, maybe on those days when I'm lacking in inspiration. It'll be like one of those sitcom episodes where they show clips from past episodes when the writers get lazy...I really hate those ones.

And how fitting a day to start my blog, the 5th of November - Guy Fawkes Day. Yes, maybe I watch too many movies, but V For Vendetta is a movie that touched me like no other. Maybe it was the timing, maybe it was charming voice of Hugo Weaving, or my schoolboy crush on Natalie Portman. I think what really got to me, was seeing the way the world was moving, and comparing it to the film. My realization of having forgotten the true meaning of freedom, and acknowledging the power of money and government has over the people today. This year I even commemorated Guy Fawkes with a Halloween pumpkin.

There is something else that is special about this November 5th however. For the past while I've been following the 2008 presidential campaign of congressman Ron Paul. I've taken great interest in this man for many reasons.

1) The of shrinking the US federal government

2)Abolishing the USA Patriot Act

3)Getting rid of the IRS

4)Most importantly - pulling out of Iraq and making a big change in America's vile foreign policy.

Although I don't agree his views on anti-abortion, and although he doesn't really have much of a plan for the environment, I still feel it would be in the best interest of Americans, Canadians...hell everyone, to have Ron Paul elected for president. I'm also a big fan of Dennis Kucinich on the Democratic side, but a win for him would be impossible at this point in time. I feel Ron Paul has a chance.

The past few weeks there has been many videos on Youtube promoting donations to be made to his campaign today. It is 8:25pm and he has already taken in $3.8 Million dollars. I went in there to made a donation earlier, but unfortunately you have to be a US citizen to do so. Probably a good thing...I'm a bit short on funds at the moment. But this really is an amazing demonstration of just how powerful his message has been. I can't wait to see what happens in the months to come. I never thought I would become interested in politics, nevermind American politics. But the way things are going these days, and the impact it has on Canada, I think it's important to pay attention and make as much of an impact as I can for my beliefs.
